The
fifth highest mountain in Africa. Mount Meru offers a challenging
and interesting climb.Meru is obscure mountain,overshadowed by
its famous neighbour Mt.Kilimanjaro.Yet its volcanic cone is spectacular.Trekking
to the summit takes you through the grasslands and lush forest,followed
by a dramatic walk along the knife edge of the crater rim.You
will meet few people,this makes it more attractive.
MOMELA
ROUTE
Day
1: Base Hotel
Arrive Namanga border town by 1000 hrs. Continue to Arusha for
lunch after immigrations formalities. Drive to Arusha where the
afternoon is spent organising climbing gear. Dinner and overnight
the Hotel.
Day
2: Miriakamba Hut 9,020 Fts
Morning transfer to Momella Gate at 1,500 ft. (4,920 Ft.), trekking
for about 3 hours with the ranger guide and porters to the hut.
Day
3: Saddle Hut 12,300 Fts
A steep walk after breakfast for 4 hours to the hut at 3,750 M.
An optional walk to Little Meru peak at 3,820 M ( 12,530 Ft.)
Day
4: Summit Day (14,974 Fts)
In the wee hours of the morning walk to the summit 4,565 M. Later,
walk for about 10 hours ascending down to the gate. Where you
will be transferred back to the hotel.
Day
5: Arusha
After breakfast drive on to Nairobi or on ward safari in Tanzania.
The
Cost of the safari ranges from US$600 per person per day,this
